Mappowder

July 2014
All 2014/15 members can continue to fish the two lakes. Please note that the area must be treated with respect and that no litter is to be left behind. The current arrangement with Gillingham will continue until September this year - more information to follow.

By arrangement with Gillingham & District S&HAA full members can fish the two lakes at Mappowder from 1st June 2012. With easy parking next to the first lake and a good head of fish including carp, bream, roach and big perch, members are encouraged to fish this quiet and attractive venue.
From Sturminster go via Hazelbury Bryan and turn right after the chapel in Wonston. Go on towards Mappowder and keep left at every junction, after the last turn left at the outskirts of Mappowder hamlet the gate to the venue is a few hundred yards along on the right.
Please do not hesitate to report instances of illegal fishing or poaching.

Recently American Signal Crayfish are proving to be a real nuisance at Mappowder. Environment Agency rules dictate that these non-indigenous species be disposed of in situ and numbers recorded. Please do not return these destructive and aggressive animals to the water and they are definitely not to be taken away and introduced into any other water.

Your club is taking steps to reduce the numbers of these crayfish in the lakes and it would be helpful if members were to report any catches/sights of these crustaceans via
