STURMINSTER & HINTON ANGLING ASSOCIATION
Here the river flows from the Wood Lane area down to central Sturminster Newton. Mainly 10 to 14ft deep with the water shallowing up just before the Mill at Sturminster. Roach, bream, big perch, pike all along here with the odd tench being caught, particularly in the summer months.
The mill pool at Sturminster Mill is a productive area all season long with bream, chub, roach and pike being the main quarry. Below the weir pool, between the mill and Town Bridge is very good in winter, after the weeds have died back. Good for roach and chub in the 5 to 7 ft deep water, perfect for the stick float or waggler.
Below the Town Bridge is the Steart section. With easy car parking opposite the Bull Inn this is a popular stretch for all-season fishing with roach and bream the main species. In the second field downstream you'll find good roach and chub fishing, especially in winter when the weed has died down, in the third meadow there are good roach and bream swims, the 'Creamery' swims being noted bream pegs with the odd tench as a bonus.
