13 March 2005 The last pike match was held today in the Colber/Wood Lane area. 8 fished. Top weight of 28lb 15oz to Bev Cuff, next Martin Hayes with 21lb 6oz, 3rd Josh Crosskey (junior) 15lb 12oz.

The fish were tightly shoaled in the cold conditions for the last match of the Sturminster and Hinton AA season at Colber and Peter Tillsley made the most of a good draw with an excellent weight of 11lb 3ozs. After a few matches where Peter nearly made the frame he came good at last with several maggot-caught roach and a few nice perch caught on worm. In joint second place Dean Walters and Brian Preston each had 3lb 14ozs with Dean catching small roach on bread-punch and pinkie and Brian having four good perch on ledgered worm. Dennis Corey had a few roach for fourth place with 3lb 8ozs.
Although the cold weather determined that there would be no grandstand finish to the season it must be said that the S&HAA have had a very good, well attended match fishing year with the prospect of an even better year next season, with a few interesting new inter-club matches already in the pipeline. 16 January 2005 A pike match was held today with 10 fishing. 1st Bev Cuff 3 fish for 22lb 4oz, 2nd Martin Colehan 8ib 2oz and 3rd Derek Hall 5lb 5oz.
5 December Pike Match Results. 1st Josh Crosskey 17lb 4oz (including a 14lb fish), 2nd Bev Cuff 7lb 4oz, 3rd Roy Clark 6lb 8oz.

The change of wind direction to a chilly Northerly conspired to keep the fish off the feed for Sturminster and Hinton Angling Association's match against Tisbury AC on Sunday 28 November. The weights were not exceptional but good for the conditions as the Colber stretch of the river proved once again what a fair match venue it is. Local knowledge proved to be the key as Sturminster anglers took all the top places, with match secretary Ian Paulley leading the way. Using his considerable local experience and his finely-honed Mr Crabtree techniques - worm on the hook fished over chopped worm - he caught an excellent total of 19lbs 13ozs. Along with several roach, more than half of Ian's weight was made up of perch, with some very good specimens over the 2lb mark. The second weight also came from the upstream area of the match with Peter Edwards taking a good 10lb 13ozs all-roach catch, using red maggot bait fished on the whip and the pole. Further downstream, at the peg one above Colber footbridge, Jeff Sibley used pole-fished pinkie to net 7lb 12ozs of roach and perch and, to complete the frame, Ian Williams had a similar net totalling 7lb 4ozs from the end downstream peg, above the island below Colber bridge.
The next match for S & H AA will be against Blandford at Nutford on the 12th December, more details in the BVM nearer the day. Also please note that the popular 'Fur and Feather' Christmas hamper match, scheduled for Dec 19th, will have a change of venue as there are already too many entries to be accommodated at Highbench lake. Conditions allowing, the match may be held on the river below Fiddleford, which could prove to be an interesting venue at this time of year. Once again, more details in the BVM nearer the day.
